Fetching Data

The Search Page consist of 2 cards. The Data Source card contains an accordion which the tabs can be expanded by clicking on the text.

Administered Pages

The Administered Pages tab is for fetching data from the pages where the logged in user has admin rights (and provided permissions for the App) on the Facebook page. When the Fetch Data button is pressed, the pages that are fetched will be shown.

Custom Page List

The Custom Page List tab is for fetching data from particular Facebook pages. The list needs to contain at least 1 page before fetching data. To add a page simply click the Add Page button and paste the copied Facebook page URL in the textbox. The user can also empty the list by using the Clear List button.

Click the Add icon on the same row and the App will validate if the URL is a valid Facebook page. The page will be added to the list if it is valid.
The user can save a maximum of 20 pages in a list while an unlimited number of lists and name them individually. To save a list, click on the Save List button and key in the input in the dialog box. If a list with the same name is found, the user will be asked whether to overwrite the existing list.

The user can managed the saved lists by clicking the Load/Delete/Rename button. The drop down on the top right of the dialog box is used to select the list, which the save contents is immediately displayed. Load will copy the list to the Custom Page List table. Delete and rename works as their name implies. There are prompts and confirmation to prevent accidental deletion, and same list names. Click on Fetch Data to retrieve the data for the pages in the list.

Public Pages

The Search Public Pages tab allows the user to use Facebook Page Search facility to retrieve a list of pages using a keyword. Enter a search term in the textbox and click on Search Pages to retrieve the page list.

The user can mark the pages to retrieve data from and move to the Next page. Currently, going back to a previous page is not working properly as there is a pagination issue with the Facebook Search facility. Clicking on the link of the page will open the Facebook page in a new browser tab. The user can thus do a quick check on whether the page is of value to be included in the search.

After marking the pages, click on Fetch Data to retrieve the data.

Searching Data

A Data Source must be selected via the Radio button before using the keyword search. It is important to note that the keywords will only be searched in the selected pages. This means that:
For Administered Pages, all pages administered by the user will be searched.
For Custom Page List, the list showing in the accordion tab will be searched. Hence, even when not fetching new data, it is good the save the list of pages for convenient retrieval.
For Search Public Pages, the only the marked pages will be searched. The usage envisioned is that the page search and page marking will be done before a keyword search is performed. Hence, it implies that a user should perform all the keyword search for the list of marked pages, before moving to another set of marked pages as fetching new data could take a while.

There are 3 page fields, 3 keyword fields and a date field that the user can use. The top row are the page fields, where the second field matches page category and third field matches page products. The first field matches other page textual content not in category and products. These fields can be left empty so that the results are not filtered by the page fields.

The 3 keyword fields can be specified to apply to posts, comments or both using the checkboxes. Logical operators in between the keywords specify whether to match documents including all keywords (‘and’), one of the keywords (‘or’) and excluding the keyword (‘not’). A wildcard ‘*’ can be used in the first keyword field to list all posts from the page list.

The third row contains a date field which allows the user to only search for the results within the specified date range.

The search result is presented in a table format. The user can choose to hide or display the result by using the Page dropdown checkbox.

Post Messages are all clickable links which will bring the user to the Facebook post in a new browser tab.

The user can also chose to hide the post comments to shorten the table.
The search result can also be exported as an excel or html file for other data analytics purposes. Ignore the warnings when opening up the excel file as it is saved in an older format to be compatible with most excel viewers. You can save a copy of the file in xlsx using your preferred spreadsheet editor so work with the data without subsequent warnings.
